Marina Smith is a freelance photographer and visual artist specializing in digital lifestyle photography, portraits, and film shooting, based in Toronto, Canada.
Her interest in photography began at a young age and runs in her family. Marina’s Grandfather, Shamil Hasianovich, would document his village-to-city living and traveling while her mother documented life as an adolescence ran film laboratory at home. To protect the film from the light exposure, she printed pictures in her bathroom with her photographer-to-be daughter. Marina began experimenting with old film cameras, eventually getting a 35 mm polaroid 3000af as a gift.
With the availability of new technology, Marina ultimately started using digital cameras in 2008. As it was a hobby, she began to offer photo shoots for her classmates and accepted specific requests with regard to the final product as social media started to gain popularity. The onset of social media was when she began to have an interest in editing and retouching photos.
During graduation, this hobby was put aside, and only occasionally she would be documenting concerts and festivals using her phone camera, but she still had great interest in photography. Everything changed in 2015 when Marina got her first professional camera. She attended and graduated from select courses in the St. Petersburg school of film and television. Furthermore, she attended various masterclasses and lessons by local photographers. Marina Smith continues to expand her photography.
